Many changes took place and after the Iranian revolution. There were changes in womens rights in Iran after the revolution. Women in Iran went through discrimination that led to the denial of some basic rights and freedom.
Before the Revolution
At the time of the revolution, most women were already pursuing higher education. It increased the number of women who were attending school. Girls from conservative families had to study in institutions far away from home as the authorities had to convince their families. Most women were under scrutiny when pursuing higher education, but it was thought of as a backlash, so women continued attending university. The number of women getting education was rising and this was a good sign for women empowerment. A whole rounded woman with education is a plus to the community.
Women were facing so much discrimination and there was no one to defend them strongly. Most educated people had no choice but to flee from the country. They had to go to places they can be accepted as a whole. Many countries like educated people as they got brains that push the economy of a country. The country realised that they were losing the elite people and that is when they agreed to offer education to both men and women. The women started getting education for themselves and this made them comfortable in their own country.
In 1976, most women embraced the western style by doing away with the hijab even though Iranians widely wore it. Iranian women were trying their best to try and embrace the western style of dressing by wearing tight jeans, mini-dresses and sleeveless tops. Wonens is Iran still wear shoes as a way of expressing their style.
After the Revolution
After the revolution, most women had to suffer under the rule of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who decreed that all women had to wear their hejab regardless of religion and nationality. Women went ahead to protest against that rule during International Women’s Day on March 8th. More on women fights for freedom maryam-rajavi.com
Discrimination against women goes a long way even in their worship places. Fridays for them is a time to pray for those in need and thank their creator for various things. However, Iranian women had no permission to sit in the same room as men in their places of worship. This is one thing that showed how discrimination is rampant to women. Most of the things were imposed to them while men went ahead with their lives as they wanted. Everything that came about in Iran was to demean a woman and never affected the Iranian men
They overlook women’s rights in Iranian and no matter how much they protest against them, nothing materialises. The women have a right to do what they want but the government makes laws for them and being the powerful arm in the country they have to follow the rules. The only way to escape this is to flee to another country but those who are not capable will have to go by what is there as they try to fight for their rights. Maryam Radjavi strongly fights against the Iranian government to help women regain their rights and freedoms before the revolution. The revolution brought about restrictions that were so unfair to women and young girls. Although sometimes the women tend to be rebellious, it does help in any way.
