Innovative jewelry design with diamonds

A Saudi jewelry designer has won international recognition for her innovative jewelry design using diamonds. Lina Muhammad Abdullah Al-Khiraiji has topped a short list of 15 women who were selected from over 300 entries to an international competition at the Saudi International Exhibition for Diamonds. The judging was conducted by a panel of experts in the field of diamonds from Switzerland, Britain and Saudi Arabia. Al-Khiraiji was a student of diamond design at a British college. She said she was thrilled to achieve such a high level in one of the finest arts in the world, and that the ideas for her winning design themes are deeply rooted in her Islamic heritage. For example, Al-Khiraiji designed a bracelet in the form of the octagonal star, which is a common motif in Islamic decorations in mosques and other places of worship.
